Dee Dee

Gorgeous Girl

    Dee Dee

Our sweet Dee Dee, the second oldest dog in our crew at 15 years old. Her history was a little more complicated than Macie and Jay Jay's. We had known her since she was a puppy as she was a family members dog, but due to unfortunate circumstances they could no longer care for her at the level Dee Dee needed. She actually stayed with us a few times throughout her life and was raised around both Jay Jay and Macie but didn't officially join the crew until around 4 years ago and had to immediately undergo a major dental procedure where they pulled all but 9 of her teeth to save her from the severe infection caused by dental disease. She recovered well and became my shadow/velcro dog, she was an absolute sweetheart who loved to be doted on, cuddled, and next to me as much as possible. She was diagnosed in March 2017 with the early signs of kidney disease, we were able to treat her with meds, prescription diet, subcutaneous fluids from home, and an herbal blend which gave us years longer with her than our vet ever thought possible in her original condition. She was laid to rest in the comfort of our home (home vet visit) in July 2019. Her favorite things were being wrapped up in a blanket, napping with the crew, and she thrived off constant love and attention. We will always miss you our sweet precious Dee Dee girl.

    • True to her breed, Dee Dee hated being cold and would almost always prefer to have a sweater or blanket.
    • She loved to be held and cuddled more than almost anything.
    • Her name "Dee Dee" comes from Dexters sister in the cartoon Dexter's Laboratory. (Their personalities are spot on, cute)
    • Dee Dee knew at least one trick back in the day and was pretty good at it, and that was dancing.
    • She taught Odin how to play  in the water at the beach when he was still just a young pup.
    • Back in her hay day she was also a great vocal artist and howler.

    • DOB 05/26/2003 - Rainbow Bridge 07/22/2019
    • Breed - Italian Greyhound
    • Weight - 14 lbs
    • Diagnosed with Kidney Disease 03/2017
    • She took 2 types of medications, and fluids once a day at the end. I had a million different tricks to keep her eating.
    • She battled dental disease on the few remaining teeth she had right up until the end. Please take the time to learn about and care of your dogs teeth, please know that dental disease can cause major health issues. The severe state of her teeth when we took her in is believed to be what caused damage to Dee Dees kidneys (and other organs), and kidney disease is ultimately what shortened her life. We spent the last 2+ years of her life doing meds and fluids from home to give her the best quality of life we could. Had we not been able to give her IV fluids from home since the day she got diagnosed our vets were convinced she would have died shortly after her initial Kidney Diagnosis, in fact they told me when they are as bad off as she got that most don't survive the week, they didnt know her yet though, and she was a fighter. (When we first took her in and she became a part of our crew, we got her into our vet asap and they ended up pulling as many teeth as possible because of how bad her dental disease had progressed, but some they couldn't pull because they were afraid of breaking her fragile jaw).
