Our white beauty Anastasia, adopted with her sister Guinevere. She just turned 2 years old but has only been with us since April of 2018. We adopted the sisters when we lost our precious Link and Leopold could not stay housed alone. Anastasia is super sweet, curious, and took to Leopold quickly and us quickly. She is what they call a Leucistic sugar glider, she has all white fur and black eyes, with clear transparent ears. Fun fact this coloring is actually due to a defect in the pigment cells. Unfortunately both girls had to be quarantine for longer than normal due to both of them coming to us with worms that were highly contagious to all our pets. They got the vet care they needed, got treated for the worms and were introduced to Leopold once the vet cleared them both with a clean bill of health. Her favorite things are food, especially sweets, she loves the wheels more than any of our other gliders and can almost always be found playing in it even if she isn't running on it. She has been a great addition to the crew and we have started the bonding process but have a ways to go to deepen the bond with both the girls. More pictures coming soon.
Sugar gliders are exotic pets, they are sold under pretense of being simple, easy, and cheap to care for. This is NOT true, they require a lot of daily work, a huge cage or room, a special diet, and most importantly an exotic veterinarian. If you run across people selling them at conventions or fairs Buyer Beware (don't be fooled like we were). Please do your research, they are incredibly cute but require a ton of time, work, special accommodations, and no matter how hard we try, humans are unable to recreate their natural environment or their diet. However, now that we have them we will never stop trying to get as close as possible. Me and my husband built a huge custom enclosure so they have sufficient space. They require warm temperatures so they have their own bedroom that is temp. controlled, and I spend a minimum of an hour a day preparing their food, cleaning, doing their dishes, and more. I also have hand made all their pouches and toys by hand because a lot of the "safe" toys were indeed not safe at all. They also have a strong odor if fed a correct diet, the sales people will try to tell you they have very little smell but that is also untrue. So if someone tells you they are easy, please do not believe them.
